Fifty-five children were admitted to a hospital in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam on Tuesday evening on suspicion of food poisoning after eating yogurt at their kindergarten earlier on the day.
Le Duc Hai, director of the general hospital of Do Luong District in Nghe An Province, confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Tuesday that the hospital was treating 55 children.
They were diagnosed with a digestive disorder.
“The children are getting better and no one is becoming worse,” Hai said.
Many students at a kindergarten in Thuan Son Commune, Do Luong District developed symptoms such as vomiting and fatigue at 6:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, said their parents.
They were immediately rushed to the Thuan Son Commune Medical Station before being transferred to the Do Luong District General Hospital.
A woman whose child was among the hospitalized said at about 7:00 pm, her child began vomiting after having dinner.
When she took her child to the Thuan Son Commune Medical Station, many other parents were there as their children also exhibited similar symptoms.
In the afternoon, the children had eaten yogurt at their kindergarten.
Those who did not eat yogurt did not show food poisoning symptoms, the Education and Training Office of Do Luong District informed, citing a report by the school.
The provincial food safety and hygiene agency is coordinating with other relevant agencies to take samples from the kindergarten to discover the cause of the case.
