86-year-old man prosecuted for raping 6-year-old girl in Hanoi

An 86-year-old man has just been prosecuted for raping a six-year-old girl in Hanoi in 2022.
The Hanoi People’s Procuracy has launched legal proceedings against Duong Van Toan, a current resident of Hoang Mai District in Hanoi for the rape of a child.
According to the indictment, Toan lived near the victim and her family in Long Bien District, Hanoi at the time of the incident.
The victim, referred to as H.P., was born in 2016.
At 6:00 pm on June 30, 2022, Toan saw H.P. playing in front of her house and no one was around so he asked her to enter his house and raped her. He then dressed the girl and told her to go home.
The next morning, P. told her mother what had happened. The mother immediately visited Toan’s house to clarify the case and was told “If I did anything wrong to your daughter, I apologize and will not repeat it.”
P.’s mother then reported the case to police in Ngoc Thuy Ward, Long Bien District, Hanoi.
Police in Long Bien District later examined the scene, seized exhibits, and proposed conducting a forensic examination.
Toan pled guilty and was put under house arrest.
The girl’s parents proposed imposing strict penalties on Toan in accordance with current laws.
