-- The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade has set up an inspection team to oversee the power management and supply at state utility Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and other relevant units between early 2021 and June 2023 in a bid to clarify the cause of the ongoing shortage of electricity. The team was told to fulfill the duty within 30 days.

-- Former Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam was forced to resign as a disciplinary measure for bribery charges by the prime minister.

-- Police in Thua Thien Hue Province in central Vietnam said on Friday that they had teamed up with police in neighboring Quang Tri Province to detain a 47-year-old Chinese national for allegedly stealing gold necklace worth VND31 million (US$1,320) at a jewelry shop.

-- The Education and Training Division of Ho Chi Minh City’s outlying district of Nha Be suspended a male teacher after he had been accused of sexually harassing a student in class at a school in the district. A video clip of his sexual harassment triggered public outrage.

-- Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Secretariat Truong Thi Mai hosted a reception in Hanoi on Friday for a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led by its General Secretary Sitaram Yechury.

-- The leaders and officials of the People’s Committee of Binh Duong Province, southern Vietnam, and other agencies witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between a Binh Duong-based firm and a Japanese company on Friday to develop a smart production and industrial park.

-- Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson abruptly quit as a member of parliament on Friday in a furious protest against lawmakers investigating his behaviour, reopening deep divisions in the ruling Conservative Party ahead of a general election expected next year, Reuters reported.

-- The White House said on Friday that Russia appeared to be deepening its defense cooperation with Iran and had received hundreds of one-way attack drones that it is using to strike Ukraine, according to Reuters.
