Police in Thua Thien Hue Province in central Vietnam have joined hands with police in neighboring Quang Tri Province to detain a Chinese national for allegedly stealing a gold necklace worth VND31 million (US$1,320).
The 47-year-old man was identified as Huang Linzhong, who entered Vietnam on May 17, the police said on Friday.
After his arrival in Ho Chi Minh City, he bought a motorcycle with plate number 59N1-720.47 and rode it to Thua Thien Hue Province.
Huang visited Hanh Hoa Jewelry Shop at the Vincom Hue shopping mall on Wednesday to buy jewelry.
An employee of the shop showed him five gold necklaces so that he could select one.
He quickly stole one of them and put it in his pocket, while the employee was finding another necklace for him.
He left the shop to travel to Quang Tri Province after telling the employee that he must exchange his money to buy one.
Some police officers in Thua Thien Hue Province were quickly dispatched to the shop to investigate the theft and hunt him.
He was caught in Dong Ha City under Quang Tri Province.
