Bac Giang Province in northern Vietnam has turned the first sod at a second-phase social housing project for workers in Nenh Town under Viet Yen District at a total cost of some VND5 trillion (US$212.4 million).
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the 12.6-hectare project, which is set to feature 16 twenty-story apartment buildings, on Friday.
When in place, the project will provide some 7,000 apartments for more than 20,000 workers.
This is one of the largest social housing projects underway nationwide.
Over 600 customers have registered to buy an apartment at the project.
Secretary of the Bac Giang Party Committee Duong Van Thai said that the province is developing 12 social housing projects.
The province aims to meet 80 percent of the housing demand of workers by 2025 and accommodate 90 percent of laborers by 2030.
The prime minister appreciated Bac Giang Province’s efforts in fulfilling the goal of building at least one million social houses for low-income earners and workers in industrial zones by 2030.
The government leader underscored that providing houses for residents is always a top priority of the Party and the government.
Besides, Vietnam is focusing on developing more social housing for low-income earners and workers.
PM Chinh also called on enterprises and departments to join hands to construct more affordable apartments.
