Two coaches collided head-on on a section of National Highway 1 in Phu Hoa District, Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam, claiming the lives of two passengers and injuring nine others.
Police in Phu Hoa District are investigating the cause of the accident, a representative of the Phu Yen Police said on Sunday.
The accident happened at about 10:30 pm on Saturday when a coach driven by Le Hong Quang, a 45-year-old resident in south-central Binh Dinh Province, collided with another coach controlled by Do Tan Quy, a 46-year-old native of central Quang Nam Province, moving in the opposite direction, according to police officers.
The crash killed a passenger on Quy’s coach on the spot.
Doctor Tran Anh Dung, director of the Phu Yen General Hospital, said on Sunday morning that an additional victim in the accident died at the hospital.
The hospital on Saturday admitted 10 injured passengers. Three of them underwent surgeries, one was transferred to a higher-level hospital, and the remainder are in stable condition.
