The Public Security Department of Kien Giang Province in southern Vietnam on Monday launched a mobile police force in the island city of Phu Quoc in an attempt to ensure public security.
Colonel Tran Van Cung, deputy director of the provincial police department, underlined the need to deploy the mobile police force in the island city to maintain public safety and security there.
The province’s mobile police subdepartment needs to provide training and equip mobile police officers with a sufficient amount of equipment in order to contribute to public security in the locality, Cung said.
The Phu Quoc mobile police force must gain considerable insights on issues in the area, actively adopt measures to ensure public security and order, promote greater unity among local people, as well as fulfill their assigned tasks, the police official said.
The island has experienced increasingly complicated developments of crimes recently, according to Huynh Quang Hung, chairman of the Phu Quoc City People’s Committee.
A number of individuals used weapons to fight against law enforcement units, giving rise to public concerns, Hung elaborated.
The launch of the mobile police force is expected to help facilitate efforts to ensure public safety and security on the island in the years ahead, Hung stressed.
The new combat unit is in charge of assisting the provincial police department with deploying armed forces to serve patrols and fights against crimes, and prevent and quell disturbances and armed riots in Phu Quoc.
The unit is also responsible for hunting dangerous criminals, in addition to joining rescue operations.
