Kinh Duong Vuong Bridge, Vietnam’s highest steel arch bridge, which carried a price tag of VND1.9 trillion (US$78 million), was opened to traffic in Bac Ninh Province, northern Vietnam on Wednesday.
The inauguration ceremony of the bridge, which links Thuan Thanh Town and Tien Du District, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.
The 1.2-kilometer-long bridge features five main spans with five steel arches, according to the provincial Department of Transport.
Two of the five arches are 41.5 meters high, making the bridge the highest of its kind in the Southeast Asian nation.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chairwoman of the Bac Ninh Province People’s Committee Nguyen Huong Giang asked relevant units to ensure the safety of the bridge and conduct regular maintenance for the structure.
After its opening, the bridge will help ease the burden on Ho Bridge, which repeatedly faces traffic jams, and enhance the connectivity between national highways 1, 17, 38 and 18, and provincial road 287.

In addition, the bridge is expected to contribute to the socio-economic growth in the province and the Red River Delta, and strengthen the traffic infrastructure system in the northern region.
Furthermore, the bridge is aimed at connecting historical relic sites south of the Duong River such as the Kinh Duong Vuong tomb and temple complex, Dau Pagoda, and But Thap Pagoda, with some historical relics north of the river.
