The People’s Committee of Hau Giang Province in the Mekong Delta region has issued a plan to launch three new waterway routes to boost river tourism and diversify tourism products and services, making the province more attractive to local and international visitors.

The plan will, at the same time, ensure environmental protection and sustainable development.

In particular, Hau Giang expects to launch tours on the Xa No Canal in 2024. In the initial phase, the province will exploit the tours on the canal in Vi Thanh City and they will visit Vi Thanh Market, the Vam Cai Sinh historical site, and the Cau Duc pineapple fields.

Meanwhile, tours on the Cai Gon River will allow tourists to visit the Nga Bay floating market, fruit gardens, homestays, and Mua Xuan eco-tourism site.

There will be tours along the Hau River in association with experiencing the life of local farmers and green and sustainable agricultural activities.

Hau Giang planned to spend some VND59 billion (US$2.4 million) upgrading inland waterway ports, revitalizing landscapes along rivers and canals, improving road traffic infrastructure connecting to wharves, expanding coach stations, and training local residents to serve the waterway tourism industry.
