People in north-central and central Vietnam should stay prepared for possible widespread downpours from Sunday to Thursday next week, according to the national weather center.
The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said that these localities could see heavy rainfall accompanied by whirlwinds, lightning, hails, wind gusts as well as flash floods in rivers and streams, and landslides in hilly regions.
Those living in low-lying areas should brace for flooding caused by heavy rains, the national weather center warned.
In addition, showers and whirlwinds will likely affect northern and north-central Vietnam throughout Saturday.
According to the national weather center, scattered showers and thunderstorms hit some northeastern and southern localities such as Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, Bac Kan, Kien Giang, Tien Giang from Friday night till Saturday morning, with rainfall of 60-95mm.
Besides massive rainfall, northern provinces and cities are expected to experience chilly weather from Sunday due to the impact of a cold spell, with temperatures dropping further at night and early in the morning especially in northern mountainous locations.
People in provinces and cities nationwide should also take precautionary measures against harmful ultraviolet (UV) levels over the next three days.
