Police of Quynh Luu District in Thai Binh Province, northern Vietnam on Tuesday said that they imposed a fine of VND90,000 (US$3.66) on a cyclist who was found to be riding under the influence of alcohol.
Traffic police officers of Quynh Luu spotted N.D.N., a 52-year-old local resident, cycling on the road with signs of intoxication and lack of control.
Subsequently, the officers pulled N. over for examination.
The test results revealed that the man had an alcohol concentration of less than 0.25 milligrams per liter of breathing air.
In accordance with current regulations, the officers fined N. VND90,000 and impounded his bicycle for up to seven days.
According to a leader of the Quynh Phu public security division, N.’s case marks the first instance in the district where an individual has been penalized for cycling under the influence of alcohol.
