Border guards in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang saved two Vietnamese citizens from a casino in Cambodia on Friday after they had been sold to the neighboring country for forced labor.
The Vietnamese forces on the same day completed all relevant procedures to admit the two victims of a human trafficking scam.
They were identified as Hoang Dinh Thuong, a 25-year-old resident of Yen Bai, and Nguyen Manh Tuan, a 20-year-old native of Hanoi.
Hoang Dinh Doi, elder brother of Thuong, on Tuesday asked the border guards in the province for help to free his sibling from a casino in Cambodia.
Doi recounted that Thuong’s acquaintance on social networks, Loc Thai Son, introduced him to Cambodia for work.
Two months after leaving home for Cambodia, Thuong called his elder brother on Friday last week to tell Doi that he was tricked, and the labor trafficker demanded a ransom of VND60 million (US$2,440).
Being notified of the incident, guards at Ha Tien International Border Gate quickly collaborated with Cambodian agencies to investigate the labor trafficking ring.
Investigation results showed that Thuong was kept at Khnhom Casino, some two kilometers from the border gate.
He and his companion, Tuan, were then rescued from the facility.
