Firefighters in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday successfully rescued nine people trapped in an elevator at a local clinic, the municipal police said on Monday.
A police officer said that police in An Khanh Ward were notified of the incident at 9:00 am on the same day.
Six firefighters and a special-use vehicle were quickly dispatched to the clinic on Street No. 34 in the ward for rescue operations.
After reassuring the stuck people, these rescuers used cutters to separate the two doors of the elevator to take all the victims out safely.
To reduce elevator accidents, police in Thu Duc City ask the owners of buildings equipped with elevators to ensure elevator emergency calls and surveillance systems work well, according to Phap Luat (Law) newspaper.
They are also told to regularly check elevators and have them serviced.
Parents should not let their young children enter an elevator alone, or get into mischief in an elevator to avoid accidents.
Residents are advised to keep calm and not to shout in panic if they are trapped in an elevator.
They should not try to open the elevator door to avoid danger, said police officers.
