Intersections with tunnels, roads, and overpasses have become an efficient solution for relieving traffic jams in cities with huge traffic like Ho Chi Minh City, Luong Minh Phuc, director of the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.

Ho Chi Minh City constructed steel overpasses at overcrowded intersections but suspended the solution due to some obstacles to design and procedures.

The municipal authorities have recently green-lighted the development of steel overpasses and tunnels.

“The authority has proposed building a similar three-level model at the Cong Truong Dan Chu Roundabout and the Bon Xa Intersection to deal with the traffic congestion there,” Phuc said.

Some existing three-level intersections have helped ease traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City, including the Nguyen Huu Canh - Thu Thiem Bridge Intersection and the My Thuy Roundabout. The under-construction An Phu Intersection and another planned intersection of Pham Van Dong Street and Ring Road 2 are also expected to contribute to relieving congestion. My Thuy is an important intersection leading to District 7 and Cat Lai Port, the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, and Phu Huu Port in Thu Duc City. Work on the intersection, carrying a price tag of nearly VND2 trillion ($82.6 million), started in 2016 but only six out of the 10 items have been completed, namely the Ky Ha 3 Bridge, an underpass from Beltway No. 2 to the Cat Lai Port, an overpass on Beltway No. 2, and the My Thuy 3 Bridge.
