Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Phan Van Mai has asked Can Gio District to call on tourism companies and large investors to develop green tourism in the outlying district.
During a conference in the district on Thursday afternoon, chairman Mai hailed the district for efforts to fulfill and exceed 13 out of its 18 socio-economic development targets this year.
Concerning the plans for the upcoming year, Mai urged the district to explore specific policies outlined in the National Assembly's Resolution 98, designed for the city.
This exploration is intended to formulate plans for the district to incorporate and implement these policies.
The city’s leader said Can Gio had favorable conditions to develop green tourism.
The district should not wait until a land reclamation urban area is completed, but should immediately roll up sleeves to create breakthroughs in green tourism, chairman Mai added.
Besides calling for investment in green tourism, the district should draw up plans to develop clean energy and encourage the use of electric vehicles instead of gasoline-powered vehicles.
The municipal chairman asked Can Gio to develop green residential areas. With a population of some 80,000 people, the district can replan itself into 10 residential areas with developed infrastructure and green facilities.
The remaining land will be used to make room for agricultural production, green spaces or projects in the future.
Chairman of the Can Gio District People’s Committee Nguyen Van Hong proposed the city allow the district to appraise and approve plans to choose contractors for its replanning projects.
The district expected to complete the selection of contractors for its replanning projects at the end of this month.
