Plastic trash, including bottles and cans, was scattered across venues designated for New Year countdown parties and fireworks shows in Ho Chi Minh City, resulting from the crowds gathering at these locations on New Year's Eve, or Sunday evening, to usher in the year 2024.

The city's sanitation workers promptly hit the streets to clear away the rubbish left behind by the revelers.

Despite their clean-up efforts through the night, inner-city streets were still strewn with such garbage on Monday morning.

As of 10:00 am on the same day, large bags of trash were discovered scattered along downtown streets in District 1, awaiting collection by garbage trucks.

A substantial volume of used plastic bags and bottles remained along the Thu Thiem 1 Bridge, connecting Binh Thanh District with Thu Duc City, an administrative district under Ho Chi Minh City.

A Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter also saw that two Japanese tourists used their smartphone to capture a pile of trash left behind by revelers and walked away with disappointment.

The trash-filled inner-city streets after the New Year celebrations have negatively affected the southern metropolis’ tourism image.

Lots of local inhabitants requested that authorities impose heavy administrative fines on those littering in public places.
