The number of patients dissatisfied with public hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 soared nearly 18.5 percent year on year, with the sharpest rise in dissatisfaction with health examination procedures and restroom cleanliness, according to a 2023 patient satisfaction survey.

On Sunday, the municipal Department of Health released the results of the survey, which came from patient feedback kiosks at public hospitals in the city in 2023.

Over 12,500 patients were not satisfied with the public hospitals’ services.

Among them, 2,125 patients were not content with medical examination registration procedures, up 33.6 percent from 2022.

The dissatisfaction with restrooms at these hospitals jumped 30.3 percent, with 631 patients ticking the column.

Besides, some 1,180 patients showed their little happiness with insurance-backed examination procedures, a year-on-year increase of 27.5 percent.

Many patients conveyed their discontent regarding the provision of general information and the seating arrangements in waiting areas designated for medical examinations and testing.

In response to the results of the 2023 survey, the municipal department asked public hospitals to better their services, quicken medical examination procedures, and improve employee behavior and attitude toward patients to beef up patient satisfaction.

Moreover, the hospitals were advised to persist in conducting automated patient satisfaction surveys as a means to identify areas for improvement and actively work towards reducing patient dissatisfaction.

The patient survey kiosk system was initiated at public hospitals in the southern metropolis in 2017.

The system is designed to assist hospitals in collecting feedback and complaints regarding their services and healthcare quality from patients, with the ultimate goal of enhancing overall satisfaction with these public healthcare facilities.
