The car lane of Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City is full of small and big potholes as well as cracks, jeopardizing commuters.

Commuters have repeatedly complained about a deteriorating stretch of Nguyen Van Linh near Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho Intersection.

As observed by a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporter on Monday, the lane for cars was covered with potholes, cracks, and subsidence.

The deteriorating road caused a traffic jam around 5:00 PM, with cars, trucks, and other vehicles inching along at a snail’s pace.

Many vehicles got trapped in large potholes, further hindering the flow of traffic.

Tai, a driver, lamented that the section had become heavily deteriorated, posing a high risk of traffic accidents.

The degraded section of Nguyen Van Linh is located near the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho Tunnel branch, heading from District 7 to Binh Chanh District.

This tunnel branch is scheduled to open to traffic in late September.

The Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho Tunnel project, which got off the ground in April 2020, carried a price tag of VND830 billion (US$33.8 million).

When on stream, the tunnel is expected to ease traffic congestion in the southern area of the city, enhance traffic connection, and spur economic development.

In July, to facilitate the construction of the tunnel project, the municipal Department of Transport asked the Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority of Ho Chi Minh City to work with other relevant units to repair the surface of Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard.
