Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation from Vietnam on Thursday departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport for Cuba to pay a state visit to the Caribbean country.

The top Vietnamese leader and his entourage concluded their business trip to the U.S. following his meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden in New York the day before.

The state visit to Cuba is made at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez and his spouse.

The head of the Vietnamese Party and state is accompanied by four Politburo members: Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang, Head of the Central Commission on Propaganda and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia, and Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang.

The Vietnamese delegation also includes Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Chief of the Party Central Committee Office; Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Central Commission on External Relations; Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice-Chairman of the lawmaking National Assembly.

Previously, Party leader and President Lam, his spouse, and the Vietnamese delegation arrived in New York on Saturday last week (local time).

During his stay in New York, he engaged in approximately 40 key events, conveying Vietnam's message of peace, sustainable development, and a future-oriented vision.

He delivered an important speech at the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, sharing Vietnam's five-point vision for a more peaceful, cooperative, prosperous, and sustainable future for the world.

He met with top leaders of several countries such as India, the U.S., Ukraine, as well as senior officials from the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

The top Vietnamese official also participated in various activities with leading U.S. businesses and investment funds through forums, discussions, and private meetings.

He had meetings with Vietnamese intellectuals and members of the Vietnam Innovation Network in the U.S., as well as American experts and scholars interested in Vietnam.

Several Vietnamese and U.S. businesses signed and exchanged cooperation agreements in the presence of Party chief and President Lam.

His first visit to the U.S. as head of the Vietnamese Party and state was deemed a great success, paving the way for further development in the Vietnam - U.S. and Vietnam - United Nations relations.

The trip will contribute to further enhancing Vietnam’s global standing and reinforcing its image as a responsible and reliable partner in the world.
