Hanoi will suspend activities along pedestrian streets surrounding the iconic Ho Guom (Sword Lake) and the Old Quarter to facilitate travel during the forthcoming Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet.

The suspension will take effect from February 9 to 23, or the 30th day of the final lunar month to the 14th day of the first lunar month, according to an announcement recently issued by the administration of Hoan Kiem District, where these walking spaces are located.

The district made this move to enable locals and tourists to travel conveniently during the holiday.

Local authorities of the wards across the district were told to closely collaborate with each other to ensure public security, traffic safety, environmental hygiene, and fire safety for residents and visitors.

To usher in the Year of the Dragon, the district will also display fireworks at two locations adjacent to the Sword Lake on Lunar New Year’s Eve (February 9).

The pedestrian spaces surrounding the lake are among the most favorable destinations among visitors to the Vietnamese capital during holidays.
