-- Authorities in Lam Dong Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, on Saturday conducted an autopsy on the body of a 70-year-old Australian tourist who was found dead near a stream in a local forest by residents on Friday.

-- A ninth grader died after taking part in a 200-meter run during a sports event in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam on Friday, local authorities reported on Saturday.

-- Fifty Vietnamese passengers on Saturday experienced China’s ARJ21 jetliner on the air route from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang City in the central region, part of the activities to introduce the airplane in Vietnam.

-- Tran Hoang Na Bridge across the Can Tho River in the namesake southern city will be opened to traffic before the Reunification Day (April 30) holiday this year after many delays, a local official told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday. The project carries a price tag of VND791 billion (US$32 million).

-- Reports that a Vietnamese woman in southern Dong Nai Province is two years older than the world’s oldest known living person recognized by the Guinness World Records has made headlines over the past few days. She was reportedly born in 1905.

-- A tourist train connecting Thua Thien-Hue Province and Da Nang City in central Vietnam is expected to be put into service by March 26, the Thua Thien-Hue Province administration’s office said on Saturday.

Business

-- Vietnam's rattan, bamboo, sedge, and carpet exports reached over $79 million last month, surging 74.3 percent year on year. Shipments of these products to China, one of the largest exporters of the products, skyrocketed 214 percent, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

World News

-- “The world's most famous sled-dog race got under way on Saturday when 38 mushers and their canine teams, one of the smallest rosters of competitors ever, lined up in downtown Anchorage, Alaska, to start the 52nd annual running of the Iditarod,” Reuters reported.
