Police in Da Nang City, central Vietnam confirmed on Friday evening that they have apprehended Im Ju Seob of South Korean nationality, who is wanted by Interpol with a red notice in connection with running an illegal gambling website.

A red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

The officers teamed up with the Ministry of Public Security to arrest the 53-year-old suspect and hand him over to South Korean authorities for further steps.

He previously entered Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and stayed in the southern metropolis for a while, before moving to Da Nang and hiding there since last month.

The Da Nang police managed to track him down to a hotel located in Ngu Hanh Son District.

According to the forces, Im Ju Seob was accused by South Korean authorities of operating an illegal gambling website that was in service from early 2017 to late 2019, with its server located in the Philippines.

The website attracted a huge number of online gamblers who bet a combined amount of over 44.3 billion won (US$33.5 million) via various bank accounts.
