Representatives of the investment and construction authority for the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Ho Chi Minh City and the municipal Real Estate Association have rejected a rumor that the city would develop a 186-story building which was expected to become the tallest one in the world.

The representative of the investment and construction authority for the Thu Thiem New Urban Area told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the information about a 186-story building in the new urban area was fake news.

The approved tallest building in the urban area will have a maximum of 88 floors. The project is Thu Thiem observation tower complex whose investor is a joint venture of foreign firms called Empire City.

However, the idea for the project has been launched and investment procedures for it have yet to be completed.

Le Hoang Chau, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association, also confirmed that the tallest building that the city had planned was the Thu Thiem observation tower complex project, not a 186-floor building.

Earlier, news that Ho Chi Minh City would boast the world’s tallest skyscraper called TS Tower spread on social media.

According to the rumor, the tower, which would have 186 floors and be 986 meters tall, would overtake Burj Khalifa in Dubai to become the tallest building in the world. It would be a new icon of Ho Chi Minh City and cement the position of the city in the global map.
