Two foreign tourists from Turkey rented two motorbikes in Quy Nhon, a coastal city in the south-central province of Binh Dinh, on Saturday last week, but a few days later abandoned the vehicles on a sidewalk in neighboring Quang Ngai Province, sending their GPS location to the rental shop owner.

Le Ngoc Anh, a 40-year-old motorbike rental shop owner in Quy Nhon City, on Friday recounted that he received information that the two motorbikes rented by two Turkish tourists had been left on a sidewalk in Quang Ngai Province and were being impounded by the local police.

The two tourists, a mother and her child, rented the motorbikes from his store on February 8, Anh said, adding that after gathering the customers' personal details, he explained how to use the bikes.

He thought that the tourists were simply touring around Quy Nhon and had no reason to believe there would be any issues during the rental period.

However, at midnight on Friday, he received a text message from the foreign tourists, explaining that they had to urgently return to Turkey due to a family emergency involving their grandfather.

Along with the message, the tourists sent a video showing the motorbikes' keys and helmets being put in the vehicles' trunks and the GPS coordinates indicating their location.

Following the GPS coordinates and clues from the video, a reporter from Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper traced the location to 35 Nguyen Chanh Street in Tran Phu Ward, Quang Ngai City, about 300 meters from Quang Ngai Train Station.

Local residents confirmed that was where the two motorbikes were found.

According to some locals, the motorcycles had been abandoned on the sidewalk around 11:00 pm on Wednesday.

Initially, they thought someone had left them temporarily. However, by 9:00 pm on Thursday, there was no sign of the owner returning for the vehicles, so the locals grew suspicious and reported the case to the local police.

When Anh received confirmation from the police in Quang Ngai Province, he was instructed to bring necessary documents, including the vehicle registration and the rental agreement, to the police station to prove ownership and retrieve the motorbikes.
