One resident was injured, while several roofs were blown off houses after a hailstorm and whirlwind struck many parts of the mountainous district of Ky Son in Nghe An Province, north-central Vietnam on Sunday afternoon.
Nguyen Viet Hung, chairman of the Ky Son District administration, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper at night on the same day that among affected communes, Bao Thang, Bao Nam, and Huoi Tu suffered the heaviest damage.
Locals in these mountainous communes saw black clouds gathering in the sky at around 5:00 pm.
Right after that, a violent thunderstorm, paired with hail, battered the district.
Many hailstones were reportedly as big as a big toe.

“Powerful winds tore multiple metal roofing sheets off houses,” Lo Thi Hai, a resident of Bao Nam Commune, recounted.
Her family members had to shelter from the thunderstorm under their stilt house.
An official from the administration of Bao Thang Commune said that the hailstorm affected most of the households in the commune, with one house completely collapsing.
Local Oc Phong Thang suffered injuries to his head after being hit by a tile.
On the same day, border guards were dispatched to Tuong Duong District to help residents recover from the consequences of the hailstorm and thunderstorm that swept through the district on Saturday afternoon.
On March 28, chunks of egg-sized hailstones ravaged many districts in the province such as Anh Son, Do Luong, Tuong Duong, Quy Chau, and Que Phong.
Hailstorms and thunderstorms are common when seasons change in the mountainous districts of Nghe An Province, according to the regional weather center.
