-- The People’s Council in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam on Saturday confirmed that it had approved a resolution allocating VND4.5 billion (US$176,816) for the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park management board to develop fences and auxiliary facilities at an area accommodating seven tigers.

-- The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) hopes to be able to discuss policies and solutions to potential issues of cooperation projects in the future with the Vietnamese government at the beginning of the projects, a JICA representative said during a meeting on the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro line No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday. The metro line, which commenced commercial operations on Sunday, was primarily financed through Japanese official development assistance loans.

-- Police in northern Bac Giang Province discovered some 11 metric tons of Chinese firecrackers illegally stored at a local warehouse on Friday. 

-- Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday worked with China Railway Signal & Communication on cooperation opportunities to develop urban railway projects in the southern Vietnamese metropolis.

-- Four men were hospitalized over suspected alcohol poisoning in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, a neighbor of Ho Chi Minh City, on Saturday, with one of them being in a critical state, a hospital leader informed the same day.

-- Hanoi generated VND18.6 trillion ($730.8 million) from land auctions by last month, doubling the amount collected during the same period in previous years, according to the municipal government.

-- The Department of Industry and Trade in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding with OSB Group, the first official authorized agent of Alibaba.com in Vietnam, to boost the sale of the former’s agricultural products on e-commerce platforms, such as Alibaba or Triple.com, a local official reported on Saturday.

-- Vietnam crushed Myanmar 5-0 in the last match of the 2024 ASEAN Championship group stage on Saturday evening in Phu Tho Province, northern Vietnam. The Vietnam secured the top spot in Group B and will take on Singapore in the semifinals.

-- “Albania on Saturday announced a one-year ban on TikTok, the popular short video app, following the killing of a teenager last month that raised fears over the influence of social media on children,” Reuters reported.
