Police in Hanoi have arrested a South Korean man who attempted to suicide after allegedly killing his compatriot girlfriend at a hotel in the Vietnamese capital city earlier this week.
The suspect, Lee C., 44 years old, has been detained for investigation on suspicion of murdering Park H., 33, in a room at Lotte Hotel in Ba Dinh District on Thursday, the Hanoi police department reported on Saturday.
According to initial reports, Lee and Park rented room 6012 at the hotel around 1:00 pm on Thursday. Shortly after, Lee requested Park to have sex with him, but she declined.
The couple began to quarrel, and Lee strangled Park with his hands before pressing a pillow over her face.
Despite her struggle to resist, she eventually lay motionless.
Frightened, Lee ran out of the room and took an elevator to the hotel’s 65th floor to commit suicide.
However, hotel security guards promptly captured him and called police officers.
Police rushed to the hotel, detained Lee, and conducted a scene examination, confirming that the woman had died in the room.
The investigation into the suspected murder is ongoing.
