A representative from Quang Ngai General Hospital in the namesake province in central Vietnam said on Wednesday that a patient who had been stabbed in the lungs by a ray was discharged after 10 days of treatment.

The hospital admitted L.Q.K., a 31-year-old resident of Binh Son District, due to a punctured lung, pneumothorax, hemothorax, and respiratory failure on May 23.

After examining the patient, doctors performed an emergency surgery which involved placing a pleural catheter in his chest and putting him on a ventilator.

The doctors also removed a 3.5-centimeter piece of the ray tail, with several sharp spines, from his lung.

The patient was no longer in critical condition and continued to receive care at the hospital a day later.

K. was holding a ray when it suddenly used its tail to stab his chest on May 23.

Due to ray venom and severe injuries, doctors gave him a very bleak prognosis.

However, thanks to their efforts, K. was saved and released after 10 days of intensive care and treatment.
