Coastal Vietnamese provinces running from Quang Ninh to Kien Giang were told to brace for a low-pressure area possibly formed in the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea, including the country’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, according to an announcement released on Friday by the national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control.
Some convective clouds were causing rainfall and thunderstorms in the northern region of the East Vietnam Sea and will likely strengthen into a low-pressure area, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said on Friday.
The national weather agency warned of the possibility of scattered showers, thunderstorms, whirlwinds, and powerful wind gusts in the waters off south-central Binh Thuan Province to southern Ca Mau Province.
These coastal provinces need to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts, informing boat owners and captains of the bad weather conditions so that they can avoid weather-related incidents and ensure their safety while operating at sea.
Authorities of these locales were also told to stay ready for search and rescue operations and send regular reports on weather-related issues in their locations to the national steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control.
