-- The People’s Court of Hanoi on Monday sentenced Trinh Van Quyet, former chairman of FLC Group JSC, to 21 years in prison for fraudulent appropriation of property and stock market manipulation. The court also asked Quyet and his sister Trinh Thi Minh Hue to pay investors over VND1.7 trillion (US$67.7 million) in compensation.
-- North Korean Ambassador Ri Seung Guk arrived in Vietnam on Monday to take office. He said he was the first ambassador that North Korea had sent abroad after the COVID-19 pandemic.
-- Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade Manuel Tovar, empowered by Costa Rican President Rica Rodrigo Chaves, on Monday announced and handed over a diplomatic note to the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, affirming its recognition of Vietnam as a market economy. -- Border guards at Lao Bao International Border Gate in Quang Tri Province, north-central Vietnam burst a ring organizing illegal entry for foreigners into Vietnam, detaining a Laotian, two Vietnamese, and six Chinese. The six Chinese men said they sought to come to Ho Chi Minh City and Cambodia to establish hi-tech swindling rings, according to the provincial Border Guard Command.
-- As many as 18 enterprises have registered to lease over 100 hectares of land in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) Can Tho in the namesake southern city, making up over one-third of the area of the industrial park, while site clearance for the industrial park has yet to finish, VSIP Can Tho JSC informed on Monday.
