Vietnam's prime minister has ordered relevant ministries and agencies to adopt effective measures to tighten import controls via e-commerce platforms per the country’s international commitments.
The order aims to promote local goods consumption, smooth domestically-produced operations, and fuel the local market.
The premier has signed for the issuance of Directive No. 29, which covers the content of the order, on consumption promotion, support for production and business, as well as local market growth.
The directive is meant to remove obstacles facing manufacturing and business activities, improve the domestic market, control inflation, and maintain macroeconomic stability.
The prime minister expected the ‘Vietnamese people prioritize buying Vietnamese goods’ campaign to run smoothly and effectively.
Relevant agencies were asked to organize various activities and launch promotional programs nationwide to bring One Commune One Product (OCOP) items to remote and rural areas and industrial zones.
Under the directive, the e-commerce platforms active in Vietnam are called on to sell locally-produced goods and deploy Vietnamese product consumption campaigns.
Besides, the prime minister also encouraged the regional connection on e-commerce platforms and cross-border e-commerce platform activities.
Relevant units were urged to enhance investigation into trade remedies and origin fraud, lift technical barriers to facilitate firms’ industrial production, and balance goods supply and demand.
The Ministry of Finance was asked to speed up the completion of relevant procedures to disburse capital for trade promotion programs aimed at beefing up the consumption of locally-manufactured commodities.
The State Bank of Vietnam is responsible for prioritizing credit for consumer goods production, expediting the launch of online loan packages, and simplifying lending procedures.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is in charge of enhancing the consumption of farm produce, fostering green production, and ensuring food safety.
In addition, the ministry was told to heighten the export of farm produce to neighboring nations such as China, while negotiating a reduction in animal and plant quarantine rates.
Also, the prime minister ordered relevant ministries and local authorities to put into operation investment projects and structures that were planned to create new production capacity as soon as possible.
Local firms will be incentivized to join the supply chains of supporting industry products.
Furthermore, the prime minister emphasized the importance of applying digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain technology to administrative reforms.
