-- President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on Thursday evening, starting a four-day official visit through Sunday to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse.
-- General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse will pay a state visit to Vietnam from September 10 to 13 at the invitation of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse, according to a statement of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations.
-- Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi and his spouse will visit Vietnam between September 8 and 10 at the invitation of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his wife. This will be the first visit to Vietnam by a Mozambican president in 17 years, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
-- Chairman of Vietnam’s National Assembly Tran Thanh Man will lead a high-ranking Vietnamese legislature delegation to visit Russia and co-chair the third session of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee from September 8 to 10. The visit will be made at the invitation of Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Volodin Vyacheslav Victorovich and Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko, according to the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

-- Super typhoon Yagi, the third storm to strike the East Vietnam Sea this year, was some 168 kilometers east-southeast of China's Hainan Island and around 600 kilometers southeast of Quang Ninh Province in northern Vietnam at 6:00 am on Friday, with winds of up to 201 kilometers per hour, equivalent to level 16, and gusts reaching level 17, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.
-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam on Thursday decided to suspend the operations of four airports, including Noi Bai in Hanoi, Van Don in Quang Ninh Province, Cat Bi in Hai Phong City, and Tho Xuan in Thanh Hoa Province, in certain time periods on Saturday due to the potential impacts of super typhoon Yagi.
-- The New York Times on Thursday received a license to open a representative office in Vietnam. The office is set to begin its operations in October.
-- Authorities in Quang Ninh Province, northern Vietnam have allowed students to stay at home on Saturday in response to super typhoon Yagi, while northern Hai Phong City will close some schools from 12:00 pm on Friday. The administration in Quang Ninh also tasked the provincial Department of Education and Training with allowing students to stay at home if needed, depending on the super typhoon's developments.
