-- A tropical depression, located in the northeastern part of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, intensified into a storm early on Thursday morning, marking it the fourth storm to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year. At 4:00 am the same day, the center of the storm was spotted some 210 kilometers northeast of Da Nang City and about 260 kilometers east of Quang Tri Province, according to the national weather center.
-- Thua Thien-Hue Province in central Vietnam on Thursday morning issued a decision to shut down all schools until further notice in response to the fourth storm. Meanwhile, authorities in neighboring Quang Nam Province announced on Wednesday that all students were allowed to stay home on Thursday due to a strengthening tropical depression.
-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has decided to close Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Binh Province, north-central Vietnam from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Thursday due to the fourth storm.
-- Border guards in Tay Ninh Province, southern Vietnam on Tuesday night caught a foreigner red-handed entering Vietnam from Cambodia illegally and transporting some two kilograms of narcotics.
-- The Politburo convened a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday to deliberate over the North-South high-speed railway project, emphasizing that it is a highly important infrastructure project aimed at meeting the growing transportation demand, and contributing to the optimal and sustainable restructuring of the transport market share along the North-South corridor.
-- Vietnam moved up one place to rank 71st among 193 countries in the 2024 edition of the United Nations (UN) E-Government Survey – Accelerating Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development, which was launched by the UN on Tuesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
