Typhoon Toraji, the eighth storm to hit the East Vietnam Sea this year, has gradually been downgraded after entering the maritime area on Monday evening, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
At 10:00 am on Tuesday, the storm was centered in the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea and was marching west-northwest at a speed of 10kph, packing maximum sustained winds of 102kph near the center.
This west-northwest direction could remain unchanged over the next two days, during which experts expect Toraji to weaken further.
By 10:00 am on Friday, the storm may change its direction toward the west-southwest, moving at 5-10kph and downgrading into a tropical depression in the northern East Vietnam Sea.
Subsequently, it is predicted to diminish into a low-pressure area in the eastern waters off the Chinese island of Hainan.
The national weather agency warned of strong winds, high waves of 3-7 meters, and extremely rough seas in the northern East Vietnam Sea due to Toraji's impact.
All vessels operating in the affected waters could experience thunderstorms, whirlwinds, powerful winds, and large waves.
Meanwhile, typhoon Yinxing, the seventh to strike the East Vietnam Sea in 2024, weakened into a tropical depression after it approached the western waters off Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago on Monday evening.
At 7:00 am on Tuesday, the tropical depression was spotted along the coast of Quang Nam Province to Binh Dinh Province in central Vietnam, packing winds of 39-49kph and traveling southwest at a speed of 15-20kph.
The agency has forecast that the typhoon will possibly weaken into a low-pressure area along the coast of Quang Ngai Province to Phu Yen Province in central Vietnam by late Tuesday.
During this period, the system could bring moderate to heavy rainfall of 100mm to the areas from Thua Thien-Hue Province to Phu Yen, with some localized areas possibly experiencing over 100mm of rain within a six-hour window.
The agency is forecasting precipitation of 30-60mm and thunderstorms in the Central Highlands region on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urged the authorities from Quang Ninh Province to Binh Dinh to closely monitor typhoon Toraji and keep captains and operators of fishing boats posted on the storm's location, path, and developments.
