The Ngo Gia Tu apartment blocks in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, built 57 years ago, have not been renovated, so thousands of residents here have to suffer the severe deterioration of facilities.

Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Phan Van Mai has recently tasked the administration in District 10 with urgently completing a detailed plan to renovate the Ngo Gia Tu apartment blocks and compensation, support and resettlement policies.

Mai requested that the specific start date for the project be determined, along with the tasks under the jurisdiction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, relevant departments, and the District 10 People's Committee.

All this must be completed before February 25.

Due to the small size and deterioration of apartments in the Ngo Gia Tu apartment complex in Ho Chi Minh City, residents have built ‘tiger cages,’ which are balconies covered with iron cages, to expand their living space, posing a safety risk. Photo: Huu Hanh / Tuoi Tre

Built in 1968, the Ngo Gia Tu apartment blocks have fallen into severe disrepair, leaving residents in poor living conditions and facing safety risks.

Despite long-standing plans to renovate the complex, District 10 authorities have been unable to proceed because of challenges in securing funding and navigating investment procedures.
