The Department of Public Security in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam on Monday announced the establishment of a dedicated team in charge of maintaining public security and tourism safety in Phu Quoc City.
The team consists of 97 personnel, including officers and leaders from various specialized units of the provincial department.
According to the department, Phu Quoc is expected to continue its rapid development in the near future.
Numerous ongoing investment and construction projects in the city may lead to increased land disputes, creating opportunities for hostile forces to exploit these tensions and carry out activities that disturb public order, potentially destabilizing the social situation on Phu Quoc Island.
The task force was established to ensure security, prevent crime, and maintain order in Phu Quoc City.
Senior Lieutenant Colonel Mai Phuong Nam, head of the division for corruption, smuggling, economic and environmental crimes under the department, was appointed as the head of the team.
Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Han, director of the provincial department, urged officers to take decisive action and enhance their responsibility in law enforcement.
He stressed the need to deploy resources effectively in the fight against crime in the city.
“Leaders of police units and local authorities must enforce strict discipline and ensure accountability. Harsh sanctions will be imposed on officers with negligence or those who shield criminal activities, which would jeopardize public security in Phu Quoc,” said Senior Colonel Han.
