Vietnam U19s finished as runners-up at the four-team GSB Bangkok Cup 2019 after losing 1-2 to South Korea on Saturday.

The young Koreans dominated the final and played on the Vietnamese’s field throughout the first 30 minutes.

But the Vietnamese defense stayed calm enough to neutralize their opponents’ attacks.

The Koreans finally opened the scoring in the 32st minutes, when Seyun Choi fired a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the net, despite efforts by goalie Nguyen Van Ba.

They doubled the lead following a close-range finish by Kwon Min-Jae in the 42nd minute.

The junior Vietnamese staged more attacks but they failed to covert.

In the 65th minute, Vietnam could have given a spot kick after a handball but the referee rejected it following a VAR review.

The young Golden Dragons eventually netted in injury time, as Cong Den dashed down the right flank to find a pass and fire home.

Hosts Thailand U19s were defeated 0-1 by their Uzbekistani rivals in the third-place play-off the same day.

Vietnam had put one goal past Thailand on Thursday, while South Korea had trounced Uzbekistan 5-1.
