Vietnam will meet Jordan in the UAE in preparation for the resumption of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced on Monday.

The friendly match is scheduled to take place behind closed doors and without media coverage on May 31.

As the game is considered important for both Vietnam and Jordan to review their players’ performance, the number of substitutions will be unlimited.

On April 29, the VFF announced the dates and venues of the games that the Vietnamese national men’s football team will play in the return of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the UAE after they had been pushed back twice due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, Vietnam will compete against Indonesia at Al Maktoum Stadium on June 7, Malaysia at the same venue on June 11, and the UAE at Zabeel Stadium on June 15.

All of these three matches will take place at 11:45 pm (Vietnam time).

The Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar are in their second round, played by 40 teams drawn into eight groups of five to play home and away round-robin matches from September 5, 2019.

Currently, Vietnam are leading Group G with 11 points from five matches, while Jordan temporarily rank third in Group B with ten points from as many games.

Vietnam aim to maintain the first place and reach the third qualifying round for the first time in the country’s football history.

The most recent clash between Vietnam and Jordan was in the 2019 Asian Cup’s Round of 16, where they drew after 120 minutes before the Vietnamese defeated their rivals 4-2 on penalties to march into the quarterfinals.

According to their schedule, the Vietnamese national men’s football team will finish three weeks of training in Hanoi before leaving for the UAE on May 26.

The players will have four days for more training to get used to the field and the climate there before playing the friendly match with Jordan.
