Despite Madarious Gibbs joining the rival Nha Trang Dolphins, Saigon Heat fans continue to hold the former player in high regard at the 2023 VBA.

In the 2022 VBA, Gibbs played a pivotal role in securing Saigon Heat’s third consecutive championship. 

This year marks his second season in Vietnam, but instead of assisting Saigon Heat in defending the title, the talented defender and Finals MVP of 2022 has switched sides to join the Nha Trang Dolphins. 

The departure of their star player to a rival team initially disappointed Saigon Heat fans. 

However, upon witnessing Gibbs in his new jersey, many supporters still expressed their admiration for the seasoned player.

“No matter which team Madarious Gibbs is on, I will cheer for him,” Saigon Heat’s fan Nguyen Thanh Thuy said.

Conversely, for Gibbs, facing his former team posed its own challenges. 

Beyond the support from the stands, he received special attention from his former teammates.

As the 2023 VBA group stage concludes, Saigon Heat holds the second position, while the Nha Trang Dolphins secured third place, ensuring both teams advance to the next round. 

If they maintain their current standings, these two teams, entangled in many fates, may clash in the semifinals.

Should this scenario unfold, the fierce competition between Saigon Heat and Madarious Gibbs promises to be a thrilling highlight of the 2023 VBA knockout stage. 

Saigon Heat’s Kentrell Barkley spoke highly of Gibbs, acknowledging him as a formidable opponent due to his speed and versatility, making him challenging to defend against.

Barkley added that their team has been working diligently to counter Gibbs’ attacks and movements.
