French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet and two Vietnamese athletes who will compete in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games and other rowers took part in a friendly boat race in Hai Phong City on Saturday.
The Games, an international multi-sport event, are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 this year in France.
Brochet traveled to Thuy Nguyen District in the northern Vietnamese port city on Saturday afternoon to visit Vietnam’s national rower team.
During his visit, the French ambassador offered his congratulations to the team, which will enter two athletes into the Games.
In addition, he wished the team success in the future.
He also rowed the boat in a friendly boat race against Vietnamese rowers.
Canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong and rower Pham Thi Hue qualified for the upcoming Games.
This is the third time rower Hue has placed her name in the Summer Olympics.
Moreover, this is the first time Vietnam’s national boat racing team has secured spots in both canoeing and rowing competitions in the Games.
Before entering the Games, Hue will undergo a training period in Thailand, while Huong will compete in the Hungarian U23 Championships.
Vietnam has earned nine spots in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Among these Vietnamese competitors are cyclist Nguyen Thi That, shooters Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong and rower Pham Thi Hue.
Besides, badminton player Le Duc Phat and swimmer Vo Thi My Tien are waiting for an official announcement on their results from the Badminton World Federation and the International Swimming Federation.
