Me Linh Flower Festival in Hanoi will take place annually in November, following the success of the previous edition last year which attracted tens of thousands of visitors, said a local official.
Nguyen Xuan Dai, director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi, made the statement at a working session on Thursday with the administration of Me Linh District on agricultural production.
The department will team up with Me Linh District in expanding high-quality, organic rice fields, investing in machinery and equipment to serve the post-harvest processing and preservation of agro products, he said.
Earlier at the meeting, the outlying district proposed the municipal People’s Committee seek other ministries and agencies’ nod to implement a project to upgrade the left embankment of the Red River section running through the district.
The district also suggested the municipal administration formulate policies and mechanisms for the development of projects combining agricultural production, ecotourism, and experience tourism.
Wrapping up the working session, Dai said Me Linh is the largest producer of flowers and vegetables in Hanoi, with its agricultural production value on the rise.
The district needs to develop its orientations for agricultural development during the urbanization period, and expand flower and vegetable farming areas, he added.
Agricultural production land accounts for nearly 8,100 hectares in Me Linh.
Some agro projects in the district have proved economically effective, such as the production of Japonica organic rice or a project combining organic rice production with experience tourism in Tam Dong Commune.
