The opening ceremony of the 37th World Flower Council Summit took place at Da Lat University in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province, located in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, on Sunday, welcoming 200 floral artisans and designers from 18 countries and territories in attendance.
The event co-held by the World Flower Council and Da Lat University kicked off in the city and Vietnam for the first time, marking the 130th anniversary of the city’s establishment.
The summit was aimed at honoring the value of flowers and the flower industry, and turning flowers into a symbol of peace and culture.
Efren Chatto, chairman of the World Flower Council, said that the event brought together floral artisans worldwide to show support for world peace through floral works, boost global friendship, and create a better world.
“The summit will give agricultural and tourism students a new vision to leverage the value of the flower industry during the process of building value chains in Da Lat City,” said Dr. Le Minh Chien, president of Da Lat University.
After the opening ceremony, flower designers from Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Macau, and Hong Kong performed their flower-arranging skills.
Within the framework of the summit, 18 designers representing 18 countries and territories joined a demonstration called My Country Design, through which these artisans introduced their homelands’ distinctiveness and features.
The summit featured a flower-arranging competition, which wraps up on Monday.
