The Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival 2024 (HIFF 2024), scheduled to take place from April 6 to 13, will feature the presence of distinguished Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu.
Born in 1962, Hirokazu is one of the big names of the global film industry.
He was nominated for the ‘Directorial Symphony’ category at HIFF 2024.
The category is designed to recognize an exceptional director with a portfolio of influential films characterized by artistic excellence and diversity.
His latest film ‘Monster’ has been screened in Vietnam.
Vietnamese audiences were impressed by the film with its thrilling plot and distinctive storytelling technique.
'Shoplifters,' one of his most renowned movies, made him win the highest prize at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

Among his typical films directed over the past 30 years are ‘After Life,’ ‘Still Walking,’ ‘Air Doll,' and ‘Like Father Like Son.’
Vietnamese audiences will have a chance to meet and talk to the celebrated director at HIFF 2024.
The first edition of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival, which covers three main prize categories, is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of participants and thousands of guests, including some 200 international filmmakers, directors, and artists.
Local and international specialists will serve on the jury of the festival.
A series of flicks will be shown during the festival, while a slew of programs will take place to introduce the Vietnamese movie theater industry to international friends as well as highlight the development of the global film industry.
