Old walls in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam have been given new coats as they now feature colorful and eye-catching paintings of local landscapes thanks to efforts by students from the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City.

With their skills, artistic thinking, and simple tools, over 20 students from the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City have joined hands with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter in Phu Yen Province to paint pictures on the walls along Le Duan Street in Tuy Hoa City.

Renowned destinations in the province, such as Ganh Da Dia (Reef of Plates), Nghinh Phong Tower, Ganh Den Lighthouse, Mui Dien (Dien Cape), and Nhan Tower, are featured on the walls.

Tran Triet Vi, a sophomore at the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City, said he arrived in Tuy Hoa in late July to join the university’s Mua He Xanh (Green Summer) volunteer campaign there.

They do the paintings from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm every day.

"We painted the walls with a white base layer, then used acrylic colors to draw the pictures and covered them with a glossy paint layer to protect the artwork," Vi shared, adding that all of the paintings were done with great care.

Dong Thi Thuy Vy, a fourth-year student at the university, said they came up with ideas and sent them to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter in Phu Yen Province for approval.

Le Hoai Phuc, a 35-year-old resident of Tuy Hoa, expressed her excitement about the new walls, noting that popular destinations in her homeland were painted beautifully.

"The walls may become a new highlight of Tuy Hoa City in the future. Locals and tourists will visit the walls," Phuc added.

According to Vo Duy Kha, deputy secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union chapter in Phu Yen Province, the students’ efforts helped promote tourism in Tuy Hoa City and Phu Yen Province as a whole.

"The activity was creative and practical," Kha noted.
