Ha Giang, an upland province in northern Vietnam, has stolen the hearts of foreign travelers thanks to its stunning roads, gigantic terraced rice fields, and typical cultural characteristics.

The province is rolling out measures to optimize its cultural values for tourism development and taking tourism expansion as a way to preserve and promote the local culture.

In recent years, the province has become a sought-after destination for international travelers.

With its breathtaking mountains, charming dew-kissed villages, rich cultural diversity, and warm, resilient locals, Ha Giang feels like a love song beckoning visitors to discover its wonders.

The province is beautiful in all seasons. In the spring, it is brilliant with peach blossoms in January and cotton tree flowers in March.

Ha Giang transforms into a cool paradise adorned with lush greenery in the spring and a stunning display of golden terraced rice fields in the autumn.

During the winter months, visitors can embrace the chill while immersing themselves in the local culture.

This northern province is home to 19 ethnic minority groups, each with its own distinctive cultural traits, including festivals, folk songs, and traditional dances.

Nguyen Van Son, chairman of Ha Giang, said that the province is focusing on promoting green tourism, enhancing service quality, and developing its tourism in harmony with its unique cultural heritage.

Trieu Thi Tinh, deputy director of the Ha Giang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, noted that many young people from the province have started their own businesses centered around local tourism.

They are dedicated to developing tourism in a way that preserves cultural heritage while leveraging local traditions to enhance the tourist experience.

In the first half of this year, Ha Giang welcomed nearly 1.7 million visitors, including around 233,000 international travelers and approximately 1.4 million domestic tourists.

The mountainous province generated VND4.2 trillion (US$167.7 million) in tourism revenue during this period.

Ha Giang has consistently ranked among the world’s most attractive destinations.

In 2023, The New York Times recognized it as the 25th-most appealing destination on its list of 52 places to visit.

Nam Dam Village in Ha Giang earned the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Award for the third consecutive year last year. In September, Ha Giang was honored as a Leading Emerging Tourism Destination in Asia at the World Travel Awards.

This year, it has been nominated as Asia's Leading Regional Cultural Destination, providing a significant opportunity for the province to strengthen its presence on the global tourism map.
