Eight out of the ten most prominent tourism-related searches by Vietnamese users in 2024 were for domestic destinations, according to Google’s ‘Year in Search’ report, which ranks the top search trends worldwide and in specific countries each year.
'Travel to Vinh Hy,' a bay in the south-central province of Ninh Thuan, ranked second on the list, while 'travel to Malaysia' and 'travel to Europe' were the top foreign destinations, coming in first and sixth, respectively.
The remaining domestic destinations included Hoi An City in Quang Nam Province, Con Son in Can Tho City, Gia Lai Province, Da Lat City in Lam Dong Province, Thuy Chau tourist area in Binh Duong Province, Da Nang, and general 'travel within Vietnam.'
Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, a representative of Google Vietnam explained that the data in the ‘Year in Search 2024’ list was meticulously compiled by Google.
Keyword search phrases like 'travel to Vinh Hy,' 'travel to Hoi An,' and 'Thuy Chau tourist area' all accurately reflect the original searches, with their rankings based on the frequency of searches for each of them.

This indicates that Vietnamese people are increasingly interested in domestic tourism, highlighting the growing potential of Vietnam’s tourism industry, particularly in destinations known for their unique natural landscapes, tranquility, and relaxation.
For example, Vinh Hy Bay appeals to travelers for its stunning natural beauty, unique dry forest ecosystem, and pristine beaches.
Vinh Hy offers a fresh alternative to the popular Vung Tau City in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.
The area’s diverse attractions, including vineyard tours and coral reef snorkeling, along with the year-round pleasant weather, contribute to its growing popularity.
In the case of the other two most searched overseas destinations, key reasons for visiting Malaysia included visa-free entry for Vietnamese, affordable flights, and diverse culture.
Malaysia’s low cost of living, rich Islamic heritage, and convenient public transport made it an appealing destination for Vietnamese travelers.
