Vietnam's record organization VietKings on Thursday held a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City to announce six world culinary records set in 2022.

The World Records Union (WorldKings) certified six world records achieved by Vietnamese cuisine in 2022. 

These include: being the country that boasts the most intriguing sticky rice and sweet dessert dishes in the world, the country that boasts the most unique kinds of natural spices in the world, the country that boasts the most diverse and attractive street food in the world, the country that boasts the most unique souvenirs and specialty gifts in the world, the country that boasts the most unique and attractive family meals in the world, and the country that boasts the most dishes made from a banana tree.

Le Tran Tuong An, general director of VietKings, shared the organization has nominated for several culinary-related records and has been recognized by WorldKings for 14 records since 2020.

According to An, such records will help Vietnamese tourism promote itself through gastronomy, especially considering the fact that Vietnam has yet to fully leverage the value of its cuisine.  

“Each province and city has its own distinct cuisine, spices, and souvenirs,” An said.

“Tourism and cuisine must go hand in hand, with food acting as a catalyst to promote tourism.

“Vietnam is compared to the world's kitchen, however as of right now, we have not properly invested in or promoted the value of Vietnamese food.

“Additionally, unlike in other nations in the world, artisans in Vietnam have not been properly taken care of to enable them to utilize and maintain their culinary copyright.”

VietKings is also expected to announce 500 dishes often prepared by Vietnamese mothers, as Vietnamese women are endlessly inventive when it comes to preparing delectable, high-quality food for their children and families.
