Tigerair Taiwan, a low-cost Taiwanese air carrier, landed its first flight to Vietnam on Saturday when a plane carrying 170 passengers from Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei City, Taiwan touched down at Da Nang International Airport.
Chen Han Ming, president of Tigerair Taiwan, said Vietnam will be a key market for the air carrier’s future operations.
Currently, Tigerair Taiwan has plans to run two flights per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from Taipei to Da Nang.
Since the reopening of international air routes linking Taiwan and Da Nang, the Vietnamese city has seen an increase in Taiwanese visitors.
Taiwan is now considered a leading source market for the city’s tourism industry.
In addition to the Taipei-Da Nang air route, Tigerair Taiwan plans to open other air routes from Taipei to Nha Trang City in Vietnam’s south-central province of Khanh Hoa, as well as to Phu Quoc City in the southern province of Kien Giang, in the first quarter of next year.
Tigerair Taiwan is currently the only low-cost air carrier in Taiwan.
It operates air routes to Japan, South Korea, Macau, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and other destinations in Asia.
