Vietnam and China co-held a ceremony on Monday to open a special-use road in the vicinity of the Huu Nghi - Youyi Guan international border gate to meet growing demand for freight transport between the two countries.

The Huu Nghi - Youyi Guan border gate links Vietnam’s northern province of Lang Son with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in mainland China.

Authorities of Lang Son and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region also launched two customs clearance routes on the same day: Tan Thanh (Vietnam) - Puzhai (China) and Coc Nam (Vietnam) - Nongyao (China).

Duong Xuan Huyen, standing vice-chairman of the Lang Son administration, said that the launch of the three routes will pave the way for helping promote tourism and trade between the two nations.

Also, these three routes will help enhance the customs clearance capacity of the Huu Nghi - Youyi Guan border gate and satisfy the growing need for Vietnam - China border trade.

Praising the strong cooperation between Lang Son and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Huyen proposed that both parties maintain their close collaboration to make the most use of the Huu Nghi - Youyi Guan border gate.

He believed that the close collaboration of both sides would help elevate the role and position of the border gate in the ASEAN - China Free Trade Area.

The authorities at the launching ceremony also processed immigration procedures for citizens of the two countries at the Tan Thanh - Puzhai customs clearance route.

Official data from the Lang Son administration showed that two-way trade via this northern Vietnamese province reached more than US$18.3 billion as of April this year.
