The American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh City (AmCham Vietnam HCMC) has announced its new executive director, Travis Mitchell, an official with intensive experience in international trade after numerous years working in Southeast Asia.

Mitchell, who has 11 years of experience in the region supporting U.S. businesses, has taken on the role of Executive Director at AmCham Vietnam HCMC since August 6, according to a press release from the agency's board of governors on Monday.

This position has been appointed after nearly a year and half of vacancy.

Before his appointment to the new post, Mitchell served as the executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, where he connected the local government with the private sector, created opportunities for growth and investment, and cultivated ties between the members of the American and Cambodian business communities.

He also served as an advisor to Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, secretary general of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), of which Vietnam is a member. He has a background in research, advocacy, public health, and community service.

With experience in supporting the U.S. business community in the Southeast Asian market, Mitchell was named one of the Top 50 International Voices in Cambodia in 2024 by the Cambodia Leadership Review, a new print and digital publication in the kingdom.

“My previous role at AmCham Cambodia and my experience with the AmChams of Asia Pacific allow me to enter this position with unique insight on running a chamber and ensure that we capitalize on the incredible opportunity that we have here in Vietnam,” Mitchell commented on his new assignment.

He is looking forward to working closely with the American business community, the Vietnamese government, the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, AmCham Hanoi, and other partners.

AmCham Vietnam HCMC chairperson Ramachandran A.S. expressed his pleasure to announce Mitchell’s appointment as executive director, underscoring that his perspective, professional background, and expertise in the U.S.-Vietnam trade and investment will enable him to deliver significant value for the chamber’s members.

AmCham Vietnam HCMC was founded in 1994 with its mission to promote trade and investment relations between the U.S. and Vietnam, serving as the voice of American businesses in Vietnam.

The agency’s vision is to become the most dynamic, strategic, and influential business association in Vietnam, promoting innovation and sustainable growth, while helping its members succeed.

It enables professional networking, business intelligence, and advocacy through events and sectoral committees such as capital markets and financial services, digital economy and technology, environmental, social, and governance (ESG), food and beverages, healthcare, and manufacturing.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, the U.S. has continued to be Vietnam’s largest export market, with turnover amounting to US$66.09 billion in the first seven months of this year, up 24.4 percent year on year and accounting for 29 percent of the country’s total export earnings.
